(TORONTO, ON // January 21, 2011) Ron Fellows, undoubtedly one of Canada’s most popular racing icons, will be on hand for a Question and Answer Fan Forum on Saturday January 22, 2011 at the Canadian Motorsports Expo.

Fellows, a true fan favourite – as demonstrated by his four consecutive American Le Mans Series Most Popular Driver awards – has been a staunch support of the CME since its inception five years ago.

Discussing his Saturday appearance at the CME, during a 1-hour session on the Keystone Light Stage (1:15 to 2:15 p.m.), fellows said, “As a racing fan, I’m thrilled to see the growth and success of the Canadian Motorsports Expo and I’m pleased to once again be included in the show. Congratulations to Glenn Butt and Inside Track Motorsports News on achieving five years of strictly motorsports.”

With an enviable record of success in a variety of racing disciplines, Fellows will be able to offer a unique, insider’s perspective to any fan’s inquiry regarding the North American motorsports scene.

His career achievements include 19 SCCA Trans-Am victories, 27 ALMS GT1 wins (in just 73 starts), 3 ALMS GT-1 championships, class victories in the 24 hour races in Daytona and Le Mans, plus five wins in NASCAR’s Truck and Nationwide Series.

One of the original members of the Corvette Factory Race Team, the Mississauga, ON resident brought the ‘Bowtie Brigade’ their first GT-1 victory in Texas, in 2000. His dedication to the Corvette racing effort was rewarded when, in 2007, Chevrolet introduced the limited edition, Ron Fellows ALMS GT-1 Champion Corvette ZO6; the first signed special edition in Corvette’s history. And in 2011, Ron Fellows will be inducted into the Corvette Hall of Fame, located at the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

Fellows will take to the Canadian Motorsports Expo stage Saturday at 1:15 p.m., fielding questions and exchanging views and opinions with his legions of dedicated fans.

NASCAR Canadian Tire Series coming to the Canadian Motorsports Expo

(TORONTO, ON // January 19, 2011) This weekend in Toronto, the biggest name in the world of motorsports will have a presence at Canada’s top racing show. The NASCAR Canadian Tire Series will be on-site for all three days of the 5th Annual Canadian Motorsports Expo. The show runs Friday, Jan. 21 through Sunday, Jan. 23 at the International Centre, adjacent to Toronto’s Pearson Airport.

The main NASCAR display will feature the same massive hauler that is the hive of activity at every NASCAR Canadian Tire Series race. Series Director Brad Moran and more than two dozen race and technical officials will be on hand at the CME to give showgoers a behind-the-scenes look at what goes on in a real NASCAR ‘tech lane’ and working garage. A total of three Canadian Tire Series stock cars will also be part of the display.

“We’re very excited about participating in the Canadian Motorsports Expo, one of the top, if not the top, racing shows in Canada,” said Moran. “The show is a great showcase for Canadian racing and we’re looking forward to giving the fans a close look at what takes place, each race weekend, in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series’ ‘tech lane’ and garage. We’re going to be offering some limited tours through the series hauler on Saturday and Sunday, so the fans can experience something that can’t happen on raceday when everybody is busy getting ready for the event.”

The show will also prominently feature a strong contingent of NASCAR Canadian Tire Series racers, many of whom will be participating in the Canadian Tire Series Driver Autograph Session, live on the Keystone Light Stage, starting Saturday at 4:45 p.m. While signing autographs for the fans, the drivers will also be participating in a casual, Q&A session, talking about their individual racing programs. So far, reigning NASCAR Canadian Tire Series champ DJ Kennington, Don Thomson Jr., Mark Dilley, Jason Hathaway, Jason White, Robin Buck, Dexter Stacey and Caitlin Johnston are confirmed.

Later that evening, two of these NCATS drivers will also be receiving Inside Track Readers’ Choice Awards, live on the Keystone Light Stage. Be sure to be there Saturday at 7:15 p.m. to find out which two will receive these coveted awards, as voted by the readers of Inside Track Motorsport News.

Also on hand at the NASCAR display, throughout the weekend, will be Chris Davy, co-owner of Robert Yates Racing Engines. The company was recently announced as the new exclusive SPEC engine supplier to all of NASCAR’s touring series. Davy will there to talk with current and prospective NASCAR racers about the new SPEC engine program. Similarly, Moran and his team of race officials will be available to discuss general issues, rules and procedures pertaining to the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series. They will also be prepared to provide paperwork for racers and teams to start the registration process for the upcoming season.

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series fans attending the CME will also be in for a special treat as Canadian Motor Speedway is presenting Jeff Gordon’s newly-unveiled #24 Drive To End Hunger Chevrolet Impala showcar. NASCAR Canada, another longtime supporter of the CME, is presenting Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s #88 AMP Energy Chevrolet Sprint Cup showcar.

Current NASCAR Nationwide Series champion Brad Keselowski will be on hand Sunday at the CME to participate in an on-stage Fan Q&A / Autograph Session. For 2011, he will be driving Roger Penske’s legendary #2 Miller Lite Dodge in Sprint Cup.

As well, popular racer ‘Mad’ Max Papis – who will be competing full-time in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series in 2011 – will be at the CME on Saturday to meet the fans and sign autographs. Papis finished second to Boris Said in the thrilling NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Montreal’s Circuit Gilles Villeneuve last August, and will be competing in the Rolex 24 at Daytona, one week after the CME.

'Junior Hanley & Friends' to discuss Don Biederman and 'old-time' racing at the CME

JUNIOR HANLEY AND FRIENDS TALK ABOUT DON BIEDERMAN AND OLD-TIME CANADIAN SHORT TRACK RACING AT THE CME

The Racing Season Begins January 21-23, 2011 at Toronto’s International Centre

(TORONTO, ON // January 14, 2011) On Friday, January 21, visitors to the Canadian Motorsports Expo will have an opportunity to join a host of Ontario stock car veterans, including legendary Hall of Famer Junior Hanley and crew members Bob Sumak, Ross May and Peter Andaloro for a ‘Bench Racing’ discussion recalling the exploits, adventures and achievements of legendary Canadian racer Don Biederman.

Biederman, who passed away in 1999, is also a member of the Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame (inducted in 2001). As a racer and personality, Biederman was true character, often described as cantankerous, opinionated and outspoken. But in addition to those things, he was a very determined, talented and successful racer.

Hanley and the others will be on hand to chat about Biederman, and their time racing with – and against – each other. Adding to the Biederman tribute will be the presence of the recently discovered ’72 Nova, which Biederman took to victory lane in the 1977 Oxford 250, racing against several NASCAR stars.

Discussing his longtime friend, rival and fellow Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame member, Hanley said, “Don was a pretty good racer, and he came to the track to win. He was a different person at the track; no one was going to get in his way.”

A regular competitor on the Ontario short track circuit, Biederman eventually expanded his schedule to include 42 NASCAR Grand National events; a pair of top 10 finishes being his best results. The racer’s most memorable accomplishment came in 1977 when he took his #43 Nova to victory lane, in Oxford, Maine. It was there he won the prestigious NASCAR-sanctioned Oxford 250, besting NASCAR stars like Bob Pressley, Harry Gant and Morgan Shepherd. The upset win still ranks high on the list of Canadian racing accomplishments. That season, Biederman also won the Maple Leaf 250 and the Northern 200.

Unfortunately, the Canadian racing fraternity lost Don Biederman much too early when he passed away at his home, in Brantford (ON) on May 31, 1999 at the age of 59. Continued Hanley, “Don was out of the car by then, but he was still helping a lot of guys with their equipment. Don was one of those personalities that everyone missed once he was gone.”

The Hanley / Biederman Forum takes place Friday, January 21 at 6 p.m. on the main stage at the Canadian Motorsports Expo. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to get a rare, personal insight into one some of the most exciting and successful characters in Canadian motorsports history.

As for Biederman’s legendary ’77 Oxford 250-winning Nova, it is being supplied to the show in its pre-restored condition by owner John Hutchins, and thanks to the efforts of Canadian racing photographer Dave Franks. Last year, the car was discovered in storage on the property of Hutchins’ business, Heart Lake Used Auto Parts, in Brampton, ON.

“John Hutchins owned the car and had it tucked away years ago,” explained Franks. “We went looking for a Nova in order to build a Biederman replica, but we lucked out and found the original. The restoration is a work in progress, but we will have the unfinished body hung on the frame in time for the CME show.”

Dave Franks (DaveFranksPhotos.com) will also be at the show to participate in the forum. He will also have a booth, selling and displaying thousands of historical photos from his collection, including many of Hanley (signed), Biederman, Dale Earnhardt, NASCAR, ACT, CASCAR, and tons more from the Ontario short track racing scene over the past several decades.

Rising Stock Car Star Steve Arpin to Appear at the Cdn. Motorsports Expo

RISING CANADIAN STOCK CAR STAR STEVE ARPIN TO APPEAR AT THE CANADIAN MOTORPSORTS EXPO
The Racing Season Begins January 21-23, 2011 at Toronto’s International Centre

(TORONTO, ON // January 14, 2011) Steve Arpin, a top Canadian prospect in pursuit of a full-time ride in one of NASCAR’s premiere racing divisions, will be on hand to participate in the Canadian Young Guns Fan Q&A Forum on Saturday morning, January 22 (10:45 to 11:30 a.m.) at the Canadian Motorsports Expo.

The 27 year-old Arpin, who lists Fort Frances, Ontario as his hometown, will come to Toronto directly from an ARCA Series test at Daytona to discuss his career, as well as his plans and hopes for the upcoming 2011 stock car racing season. Arpin will also be participating in the Inside Track Readers’ Choice Awards presentations on Saturday evening at the CME (starts at 6:45 p.m.).

No stranger to the Winner’s Circle, Arpin started his competitive career with seven snowmobile World Championships before switching his focus to four-wheeled, dirt track competition. Innumerable race wins and championships followed as Arpin campaigned his #00 Dirt Modified throughout Ontario and the mid-western United States. A three-season stretch of consecutive race wins at his home track, Emo Speedway, resulted in a competitive ‘bounty’ being placed on his head, but the challenge went unclaimed as Arpin’s success continued.

Eventually heading to the heart of NASCAR country, Arpin settled in North Carolina and was befriended by Sprint Cup star Carl Edwards. Offered a ride in Edwards’ Silver Crown car, Arpin went on to earn the USAC Rookie of the Year award in 2008.

He then moved to the ARCA series, first with Eddie Sharp Racing and then with (Billy) Venturini Motorsports (in 2009). That effort resulted in a seventh-place, year-end points effort and his first of two ARCA Most Popular Driver awards. Returning to the ARCA Series last year with a limited schedule, Arpin piloted his #55 Mike’s Hard Lemonade Toyota to three race victories (DuQuoin, Texas and Salem) and 10 top 10 finishes.

That success opened the door to seven NASCAR Nationwide Series starts for Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s JR Motorsports (driving both the #7 and #88 Chevrolets), where Arpin scored a top-10 finish in the Subway Jalapeno 250 event. Last season, Arpin was backed by Canadian-based Mike’s Hard Lemonade.

Said Arpin of his drives for JR Motorsports, “Nationwide was definitely an eye-opener, I learned so much in those seven races, watching and following Carl (Edwards), Kyle (Busch) and Brad (Keselowski), I learned something every lap. And that experience paid dividends when I returned to the ARCA series.”

Usually reluctant to get out of a racecar, Arpin is nevertheless excited about his first-ever visit to Toronto. “We have an incredible fan base in Canada, and their support is what makes the effort worthwhile. It will be so cool to be able to meet some of them, shake their hands, sign some autographs and thank them for their interest.”

NASCAR star Brad Keselowski is coming to the Canadian Motorsports Expo

RISING NASCAR STAR BRAD KESELOWSKI TO APPEAR AT THE CANADIAN MOTORSPORTS EXPO ON SUNDAY, JANUARY 23

(TORONTO, ON // December 21, 2010) Canadian racing fans will have an opportunity to meet – and get an autograph from – one of NASCAR’s top young stars when Brad Keselowski appears at the Canadian Motorsports Expo on Sunday, January 23, 2011. The show takes place Jan. 21-23 at Toronto’s International Centre.

This past summer, Keselowski won the NASCAR Nationwide Series championship, driving for respected team owner Roger Penske. In 2011, the Michigan native will pilot Penske’s legendary ‘Blue Deuce’ #2 Miller Lite Dodge in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.

The second-generation racer won a Sprint Cup race at Talladega in 2009 and has a total of 12 Nationwide Series victories to his credit, in addition to his championship in that series. Keselowski – who has also raced for Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s JR Motorsports – made headlines in 2010 with his intense, head-to-head battle with Carl Edwards. The 26-year-old is a talented, popular and somewhat controversial driver whose star is clearly on the rise.

Immediately prior to appearing at the Canadian Motorsports Expo, Keselowski will take part in pre-season testing at the newly-resurfaced Daytona International Speedway, in advance of Speedweeks 2011 and the Daytona 500. Keselowski is no stranger to appearing in Canada, having raced in the NASCAR Nationwide Series events at Montreal’s Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in recent years.

“I’m looking forward to coming to Toronto and meeting the fans at the Canadian Motorsports Expo on Sunday, January 23,” said Brad Keselowski. “Michigan is obviously very close to Canada and we have a lot of great fans up there. The Q&A and Autograph Session should be a lot of fun.”

(TORONTO, ON // December 15, 2010) Motorsports fans will have an opportunity to see and chat with one of the world’s most popular and successful racers on Saturday, January 22 at the Canadian Motorsports Expo. Three-time IndyCar Series champ and two-time Indianapolis 500 winner Dario Franchitti will appear live at the CME to participate in a fan Q&A / Autograph Session.

The Scottish-born driver, who has also competed in NASCAR, Grand-Am and ALMS during his career, recently overcame a 12-point deficit heading into the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway, to secure his third IndyCar Series crown. And back in May, the Nashville, TN resident won his second career Indy 500 trophy, making him the simultaneous reigning champion for both the IndyCar Series and one of the world’s most prestigious and coveted races.

Discussing his upcoming appearance at the CME, Franchitti said, “I’m really excited about coming to Toronto and the Canadian Motorsports Expo, in January. I always have a great time racing there each summer and it will be good to connect with Canadian racing fans during a weekend when I don’t have to focus on trying to win a race. I’m looking forward to talking with the fans and signing autographs at the CME.”

The CME’s David Weber is equally enthused about Franchitti coming to the show. “Racing fans around the world know about the Indy 500 and the IndyCar Series. Canadian fans have a special connection to the series because of our rich history of excellent IndyCar Series events and the fact that Canada has produced so many top drivers in the series. But if there was one void, it was the underrepresentation of the drag racing community. That gap will be filled for the 5th Annual CME, which takes place January 21-23, 2011 at Toronto’s International Centre.

Thanks to Bruce Biegler of DragRaceCanada and some of his high-powered friends, the Canadian Motorsports Expo will feature several incredible drag cars. Biegler – who is also the Drag Racing Editor for Inside Track Motorsport News – is a highly respected member of the drag racing community, and when he put out the call to support Canada’s Ultimate Racing Show, they responded.

Confirmed for the show, so far, are:

•           Canada’s only NHRA legal Pro Stocker, driven by Mark Martino of Stoney Creek, Ontario. The car is a 2010 Pontiac GXP with a 500 cubic inch displacement (CID) powerplant.

•           Jeff Roth’s ’41 Willys Replica PMRA Pro Modified car. Based out of Kitchener, Ontario, this car features a 526 CID motor.

•           Gus Mantas’ stunning blue ’68 Barracuda NHRA Super Stock (SS/AH) drag car, powered by a 426 CID Hemi. Mantas hails from Toronto, Ontario.

The Racing Season Begins January 21-23, 2011 at Toronto’s International Centre

(TORONTO, ON // December 13, 2010) Throughout its existence, there has always been a special enthusiasts’ event held during the Canadian Motorsports Expo. Last year, it was the kick-off of 50th anniversary celebrations at Mosport. Two years ago, hundreds gathered to celebrate the history of stock car racing at the CNE and Pinecrest speedways. The 5th Annual CME, which takes place January 21-23, 2011 at the International Centre, will add another chapter to the show’s legacy of honouring Canadian motorsports.

On Sunday, January 23, the show will celebrate the Ontario karting community, with an event called the Canadian Motorsports Expo Karting Reunion. According to feature organizer Ed Butt, initial response to the event has been almost overwhelming.

The reunion will feature a vintage kart display as well as historical videos, pictures and memorabilia from the early days of karting. It will also offer generations of karting competitors and enthusiasts an opportunity to share stories with some of the ‘Fathers of Karting’ from the Ontario karting scene. It promises to be a party that will be talked about for years to come.

Kicking off at 1 p.m. on Sunday, the cost of participating in this all-ages event will include: CME Show Admission and applicable taxes (HST), food, a non-alcoholic beverage and a souvenir memento of the Reunion (with each adult, senior and youth admission). A cash bar will also be available.

“We expect this reunion to be completely sold out,” said Butt. “So many racers got their starts in racing. We’ve invited some high-profile former karters to attend and we’re hopeful that some of them will be able participate. Book early so you won’t be disappointed. Due to space limitations, attendance at the Karting Reunion will be strictly on a ‘first come, first served’ basis.”

Advance reservations will be accepted immediately and will be held until Dec. 31, at which point non-paid reservations will be sold to others. After January 12 – due to advance meal and service requirements at the International Centre – there will be absolutely no tickets available, and none will be available at the door. For the same reason, cancellations cannot be refunded after Jan. 12, 2011.

The Racing Season Begins Here January 21-23, 2011 at Toronto’s International Centre

(TORONTO, ON // September 7, 2010) At a time when many Canadian racers and enthusiasts are thinking about championship chases and the exciting conclusion of the 2010 racing season, the promoters of the Canadian Motorsports Expo are in high gear, revving up for the 5th Annual CME, January 21, 22 and 23, 2011 at Toronto’s International Centre.

Known as Canada’s Ultimate Racing Show, the CME features major stars and racing vehicles from the world of motorsports. The three-day racing extravaganza also includes motorsports equipment manufacturers and suppliers, retailers and collectables as well as representation from the major tracks and series. The Canadian Motorsports Expo is also famous for its interactive seminars and forums, offering something of interest to seasoned racers and those looking to get involved.

Mosport unveils its 50th Anniversary logo at the Canadian Motorsports Expo

Mississauga, ON (January 22, 2010) – Mosport International Raceway unveiled its 50th anniversary season logo today at the opening of the Canadian Motorsport Expo (CME), this country’s premier racing show, which is on at the Toronto International Centre until Sunday.

The golden anniversary emblem incorporates the circuit’s historic logo, used from the 1960s to the 1990s, when the facility was known as Mosport Park. It sports a maple leaf within the word “Mosport” set over an outline of the track on a checkered flag background, surrounded by a golden ring, laurels and the number 50.

“Our 50th anniversary season obviously will have a strong nostalgic flavour, so it’s only fitting that we incorporate the old Mosport Park logo,” said Myles Brandt, president and general manager of Mosport International Raceway. “We hope this season-long celebration will bring back many great memories for everyone associated with the track since 1961.”

The trip down memory lane starts with this weekend’s CME, where the Mosport RaceTour Exhibit will feature the Horst Kroll owned Can-Am car that Paul Tracy drove at Mosport in 1986 to score his first major race win. Both Tracy and Kroll will appear at the CME on Sunday.

ALMS CEO Scott Atherton to headline Alternative Fuels Forum at the CME

Motorsports has long been at the leading edge when it comes to innovation and the development of automotive technologies. These days, environmental issues are front of mind in many spheres, including the auto industry and motorsports. The escalating cost of traditional energy has only heightened awareness of the need for new options.

Many in motorsports are working to be part of the solution, and one aspect of that is the development of practical, alternative fuels for use on the racetrack, and ultimately, on our roads. On Saturday, January 23 at the Canadian Motorsports Expo – starting at noon on The Canadian Tire Stage – several experts will take part in an Alternative Fuels Forum. They will discuss energy issues and motorsports-related solutions for the future. Headlining the panel is American Le Mans Series CEO Scott Atherton.

“The American Le Mans Series is a leader when it comes to alternative fuels, with several options currently being used and in development,” said CME President Glenn Butt. “And we are deeply honoured to have Scott Atherton attending the CME and participating in this forum.”

Atherton is expected to be joined by several noted experts in their fields, including Dan McTeague. The Canadian Member of Parliament is a household name to many Canadians because of his work as a consumer watchdog when it comes to the price of gasoline.

Also on stage will be Michigan-based Dave Kalen, who has been involved in emissions measurements for hybrid vehicles through projects like ChallengeX and EcoCAR. He’s also a member of the Off Road Implementation Advisory Group for the California Air Resource Board and an advisor to the SEMA fuel economy task force. Recently, he’s become involved with the stock car-related project Green Racing, in which an engine is being tested with alternative fuels and technologies such as electronic fuel injection and catalysts.

Joining the other experts will be Mitch Markusich of Ontario Competition Fuels. Markusich has been a pioneer in the development and testing of unleaded fuels, dating back to 1992 when the Canadian government implemented a ban on leaded fuels for racing purposes. Additionally, John Stefko – of Stefko Racing Engines – will bring his 25+ years experience building race engines to the forum.

Change is inevitable, and many in motorsports – from NASCAR to IndyCar – are working hard to develop alternatives that are beneficial for the sport and society. Renowned Auto Racing Fitness Trainer Jim Leo to Present his Racer Fitness Seminar on Sunday at the CME

PitFit Training Inc. President Jim Leo will present his seminar A Fit Driver Is a Safe Driver on Sunday at 11 a.m. at the Canadian Motorsports Expo (CME). During his presentation, in Seminar Room #1, he will explain why physical fitness and proper nutritional habits can enhance the performance and safety of a racing driver. The seminar is free to showgoers at this weekend’s CME, at Toronto’s International Centre.

Kawartha Speedway racer Mike Wallace to display at the CME

There’s no question the 4th Annual Canadian Motorsports Expo will be catering to some fairly excited fans and drivers, anxious for the 2010 season to commence. Though perhaps none are more excited than 2009 Kawartha Speedway Mini Stock champion Mike 'The Blueprint' Wallace. That’s because the third-generation wheelman will be publicly unveiling his brand new Late Model for the first time, at the CME.

“I couldn’t tell you how excited I am to be heading to the Expo. My team and I sat down and tried to think of the best way possible to debut this car, when we heard about the Racer’s Corral, we knew that’s exactly what we were looking for,” Beamed Wallace.

Wallace will join several other drivers who will also be displaying their months of hard work in the form of their rides for 2010. The fans couldn’t be happier, as internet forums and race shops alike are buzzing with those excited to catch a glimpse of the cars that will be tearing up dirt and asphalt across the province in just a few short months.

“I’m looking forward to meeting the fans at the Expo," continued Wallace. "The support that people have shown me for the past 2 seasons has been mind blowing, now I’m excited to give back, meet the fans, sign some autographs and let them take some pictures of the car. It’s going to be a great weekend.”

'The Blueprint' will be returning to Kawartha Speedway, the site of his 2008 Mini Stock Rookie of the Year title and 2009 Mini Stock Championship, to compete against some of the province’s brightest Late Model stars, like Brandon Watson, “Old School” Dan McHattie, Dave Morgan and others. And while rubbing fenders with the province’s elite seems intimidating, Wallace is ready to meet the challenge head-on.

(TORONTO, ON // JANUARY 19, 2010) While there will be many tracks, series, racing vehicles, suppliers and vendor displays all throughout Toronto’s International Centre this coming weekend at the Canadian Motorsports Expo, it will be tempting for showgoers to stick close to The Canadian Tire Stage. From Friday through Sunday (Jan. 22-24), it will be the CME’s focal point, offering race fans non-stop opportunities to interact with Canadian and international racing stars and motorsports personalities, like Matt Kenseth, Paul Tracy, Ron Fellows and the Duhamels.

Starting Friday evening (at 7 p.m.), The Canadian Tire Stage will – for the second year in a row – play host to Spencer Lewis’ Ontario Asphalt Short Track Power Rankings presentations. Lewis, an Inside Track Motorsport News contributor, will present awards to the province’s top asphalt oval racing stars. Last year, drivers like Steve Robblee, Jeff Hanley, Ron Sheridan, Stompin’ Tom Walters and others were honoured. Show up Friday to see who makes the list this year!

SATURDAY

Action on The Canadian Tire Stage heats up Saturday with several major events. The schedule kicks off at 10:45 a.m. when Canadian racing legend Ron Fellows hosts ‘Ron & Friends,’ a bench-racing forum featuring Bill Brack, Robin Buck, Daniel Morad, Bryan Muir, Robert Wickens and Ken Wilden. Join Ron and his panel of speedy friends in a wide-ranging motorsports discussion.

At noon, several industry experts will take part in the Alternative Fuels Forum. American Le Mans Series CEO Scott Atherton and Canadian MP Dan McTeague will be joined by others in a discussion about the current and future trends in racing fuels as they relate to ‘green’ initiatives.

The fourth-annual ‘Meet the Media’ forum kicks off at 1:15 p.m. on The Canadian Tire Stage. Featuring many of Canada’s top motorsports journalists, this interactive fan forum is a great opportunity to get a ‘behind the scenes’ perspective from experts like Norris McDonald (Toronto Star / Wheels), Dean McNulty (Sun Media), Erik Tomas (Raceline Radio), Jeff Pappone (Globe & Mail), Tim Miller (Hamilton Spectator), Hugh Burrill (City TV) and Russ Bond (Inside Track / CanadianRacers.com).

Once the ‘press’ forum wraps up, reigning Daytona 500 winner and former NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Matt Kenseth will take to The Canadian Tire Stage to participate in a Q&A session with the fans, before signing as many autographs as possible. The NASCAR veteran is scheduled to be on stage from 2:30 to 4 p.m.

A NASCAR Canadian Tire Series driver autograph session, featuring many of the top stars from Canada’s national stock car championship, takes place from 4:45 to 5:30 p.m. That will be followed by a Q&A / Autograph session starring Yvon, Miguel and Mario Duhamel; Canada’s First Family of Motorcycle Racing. Saturday’s action on The Canadian Tire Stage wraps up with the Inside Track Readers’ Choice Awards presentations. Many of Canada’s top and future racers – as voted by the readers of Inside Track Motorsport News – will be on hand (starting at 7 p.m.) to receive their awards, for excelling in stock cars, road racing, motorcycles, rallying, karting and drag racing.

SUNDAY

Sunday’s Canadian Tire Stage program opens, at 11 a.m., with another on-stage Q&A / Autograph session with the Duhamels. Next up, Canadian road racing star Paul Tracy will participate in a Fan Q&A and autograph session with CME showgoers. The former IndyCar champ, who is popular for his wide-open driving style and candid comments, will be on The Canadian Tire Stage from 1:30 to 2:45.

And then at 3 p.m., Tracy, Ron Fellows and several others, including Horst Kroll, Norris McDonald and Doctor Hugh Scully will take part in ceremonies and celebrations kicking off the upcoming 50th anniversary season of racing at the legendary Mosport International Raceway. Canadian Motorsports Expo: Race Time Radio to broadcast live from the CME

RACE TIME RADIO TO BROADCAST LIVE FROM THE CANADIAN MOTORSPORTS EXPO

(TORONTO, ON // JANUARY 12, 2010) An exciting new addition to the 4th Annual Canadian Motorsports Expo will be a pair of live broadcasts by Race Time Radio, direct from the floor of the International Centre. Running from noon to 1 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday of the CME (January 23 & 24), hosts Joe Chisholm and Bob Sanders will conduct interviews with top drivers, racing personalities and show exhibitors.

The Race Time Radio (RTR) duo will talk about what’s going on at the Canadian Motorsports Expo and get a feel for what racing fans can look forward to in 2010. Both broadcasts from the CME will be carried live on AM560; the home of Race Time Radio (www.racetimeradio.com). AM560 has a daytime ‘reach’ of over 200 km from Owen Sound, Ontario. Canadian Motor Speedway to have a presence at the Cdn. Motorsports Expo

(TORONTO, ON // JANUARY 11, 2010) Many Canadian racing fans are aware that Ft. Erie, Ontario has been designated as the host site for a multi-purpose, carbon-neutral motorsports facility called the Canadian Motor Speedway (CMS).

Valued at $150 million, CMS will incorporate a 1-mile ‘Jeff Gordon Design Signature Speedway’ oval, a 2.6-mile FIA grade road course, 65,000 seats (expandable to 100,000), a Motorsports and Automotive R&D Park in collaboration with McMaster University, and much more into an 820 acre parcel of land along the QEW highway, just kilometres from the Canada/US border.

Late in 2009, CMS received overwhelming support from Ft. Erie and Niagara Region councils, paving the way for construction to commence in the Spring of 2010. As part of its campaign to inform and educate the racing public about plans to create a world-class facility in Southern Ontario, the Canadian Motor Speedway will have a booth at the Canadian Motorsports Expo (CME). The CME takes place January 22-24 at the International Centre, adjacent to Toronto’s Pearson Airport.

Internationally respected motorsports facility designer Paxton Waters – the lead architect on the CMS project – will be on hand at the CMS booth at the CME, as will John Bickford, the Vice President and General Manager of Jeff Gordon, Inc. Bickford is also the stepfather of Jeff Gordon; the four-time NASCAR Sprint Cup champ who is heavily involved in the design of CMS.

Fans who visit the Canadian Motor Speedway booth will be able to meet the CMS development team, ask the architect about the design, and get the inside scoop on CMS and the development process planned for between now and the track’s inaugural race day, scheduled for 2011. The booth will feature ‘never before seen’ renderings and souvenir giveaways. As well, the CMS team will be available for B2B discussions to explore partnerships and potential business opportunities with the facility.

The Canadian Motor Speedway booth is #1225, located in Hall 1 of the International Centre. Paxton Waters will be at the CMS booth throughout the entire show. John Bickford will be at the booth throughout Friday (1 to 9 p.m.) and from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday of the CME.

ABOUT PAXTON WATERS: Paxton Waters, AIA, OAA, is president of Paxton Waters Architecture, an Indiana design firm whose main focus is on Motorsport Facility design. A native of Omaha, Nebraska, Paxton has 34 years of experience as an architect and is registered in 22 states. Paxton’s first involvement with motorsports was in 1990 with the design of various buildings at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, including their 60,000-sft headquarters. In 1994, Paxton was the lead designer for the California Speedway, shortly followed by the Las Vegas Motor Speedway and Pikes Peak International Raceway near Colorado Springs.
Other facilities designed by Paxton are US 131 Speedway, Monroe Speedway, Mansfield Motor Speedway, and Iowa Speedway. Paxton has consulted on more than 50 feasibility studies from New York to California. Paxton is currently co-designing the Canadian Motor Speedway, in Ontario, Canada, with NASCAR legend Jeff Gordon.

ABOUT JOHN BICKFORD: John Bickford is Vice President and General Manager of Jeff Gordon, Inc. He is also step-father to NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon. Bickford started Gordon’s racing career on a makeshift racetrack in Vallejo, California in 1976 at the age of 5. At the same time, he started MPD which is a company that produces products for physically challenged people to enable them to drive cars without the use of their feet. The company also produces race car products.
In 1985, he moved east to further Jeff Gordon’s racing establishing a base in Pittsboro, Indiana. In 1996, following a move from Pittsboro to Concord, North Carolina he became the Executive Vice President of Action Performance. While with Action, he spent 18 months in Europe working on Formula One and SBK World Super Bike. In 2004, he returned to Jeff Gordon, Inc. where he remains Vice President and General Manager.

Former F1 and CART Series driver to share his expertise with aspiring young racers at the CME

“I have always had a soft spot for Canadian motorsports fans,” said Daly. “I scored my first Formula One world championship point in Montreal in 1978 when Gilles Villeneuve won. Canadian racing fans are among the most knowledgeable anywhere.”

Daly’s book, Race to Win, is the basis of his Advanced Driver Development presentation to aspiring racers and motorsports fans. Discussing his upcoming appearance at the CME, Daly continued, “I look forward to sharing the principles of driver development with existing and future Canadian drivers. I highly encourage any parents whose children are interested in racing to attend. The seminar has been well-received from Indianapolis to Silverstone and it will be a delight to deliver the message in Toronto. I have a passion for the young driver and it will be a pleasure to attend the Canadian Motorsports Expo.”

Daly’s seminar is scheduled to start at 11:45 a.m. on Saturday morning (Jan. 23) in the CME’s Seminar Room. Following his presentation, Daly – who took part in six Indy 500s and twice won the Sebring 12 Hour – will be available for a fan Q&A and autographs. Copies of his book, Race to Win, will also be available at the show.

REIGNING DAYTONA 500 CHAMPION AND PAST NASCAR SPRINT CUP CHAMP COMING TO THE CME

NASCAR star Matt Kenseth has accomplished a lot during his racing career. The 37-year-old Wisconsin native won the 2003 NASCAR Sprint Cup championship in dominant fashion, and he will head to Daytona International Speedway, next February, as the defending winner of the world’s most coveted stock car race; the Daytona 500.

But before he does that, Matt Kenseth will be coming to Toronto’s International Centre on Saturday, January 23, 2010 to meet with fans and sign autographs at the Canadian Motorsports Expo. Kenseth has many enthusiastic fans in Canada, many of whom were at Cayuga Speedway in 2002 when he emerged victorious in a thrilling CASCAR race, beating a field comprised of several other NASCAR stars and talented Canadian racers.

“I’m really looking forward to coming to the Canadian Motorsports Expo,” said Kenseth, in announcing his appearance at the CME. “Canadian racing fans are very passionate about NASCAR and it’ll be great to have an opportunity to talk racing with them again, and to sign some autographs. ABOUT MATT KENSETH: Matt Kenseth drives the No. 17 Crown Royal Ford Fusion in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series for Roush Fenway Racing. Kenseth’s victory in the 2009 Daytona 500 was the first-ever for the Roush Fenway team. Kenseth, who has 18 Sprint Cup victories to his credit, hails from Cambridge, Wisconsin. He won the NASCAR Sprint Cup title in 2003, just three seasons after being honoured as the series’ top rookie (in 2000). MOTORCYCLE LEGENDS MIGUEL AND YVON DUHAMEL ARE COMING TO THE CME

(TORONTO, ON // DECEMBER 15, 2009) There is no question that Canada’s first family of motorcycle racing is the Duhamel clan, and two of its legendary members will make an appearance at the Canadian Motorsports Expo Jan. 22-24, 2010.

Yvon Duhamel, the patriarch of the family, and his son Miguel, will be at the International Centre in Mississauga, ON to meet racing fans, sign autographs and talk about their storied careers.

A native of Montreal, Yvon Duhamel made his name as a versatile racer who tackled virtually every form of the sport, from motocross and ice racing to flat track and road race. He earned international acclaim, however, for his road racing exploits. Riding for the Deeley Yamaha team, Duhamel finished second in the Daytona 200 in 1968 and qualified on pole for the 1969 Daytona 200 with the first ever qualifying lap above 150 mph.

In 1971 Yvon joined the Kawasaki factory racing team and became famous for his ability to tame the daunting H2R three-cylinder two-stroke. He won five American Motorcyclist Association Nationals for Kawasaki between 1971 and ’73 and represented the company on the international stage.

Miguel Duhamel is one of the most successful racers in AMA history. He has won the Daytona 200 on five occasions, claimed five AMA Supersport titles, two AMA Formula Xtreme crowns and was AMA Superbike champion in 1995.

He was the AMA Superbike Rookie of the Year in 1990, riding for the Yoshimura Suzuki team. He raced for Honda in 1991 and competed in Grand Prix racing in 1992 on a Yamaha. After a year with Kawasaki in the U.S. in ’93, he helped Harley-Davidson’s fledgling Superbike team in 1994 before joining the American Honda factory squad in 1995 for a relationship that would last 14 years.

Miguel is the winningest rider in AMA road racing history with 86 victories in Superbike, Supersport and Formula Xtreme competition.

Canadian racing legend Ron Fellows to appear at the CME

(TORONTO, ON // DECEMBER 11, 2009) While there have been several constants throughout the three-year history of the Canadian Motorsports Expo, the presence of Canadian racing star Ron Fellows is one of the most notable. In 2010, the accomplished racer will be making his fourth consecutive appearance at the CME, taking part in several significant discussions and ceremonies.

On Saturday, January 23, Fellows – who has gone to victory lane at Le Mans, Daytona’s Rolex 24 and in several NASCAR events including the 2008 Nationwide Series race at Montreal’s Circuit Gilles Villeneuve – will host a ‘bench racing’ panel discussion at the Canadian Motorsports Expo called “Ron & Friends.” Fellows will moderate a wide-open discussion featuring several top Canadian racers, interacting with fans at The Canadian Tire Stage.
Talking about the ‘Ron & Friends’ forum, Fellows said, “While this year’s Canadian Motorsports Expo is heavy on the nostalgia theme – with the celebration of Mosport’s 50th Anniversary Season in 2010 – we’re planning to have a number of current and former competitors on hand to interact with the fans for a fun ‘bench racing’ segment, hosted by yours truly. Canadian open-wheel champion to take part in celebration of Mosport’s 50th Anniversary Season

(TORONTO, ON // NOVEMBER 11, 2009) Racing fans in attendance at the Canadian Motorsports Expo on Sunday, January 24, 2010 are in for a ‘thrill.’ Paul Tracy, one of Canada’s most successful, entertaining and popular racers will be at the International Centre to sign autographs, chat with fans, and participate in ceremonies celebrating the official kick-off of Mosport International Raceway’s 50th Anniversary Season, in 2010.

Known as ‘The Thrill from West Hill,’ Tracy is the perfect headliner for the CME’s Mosport celebration. He cut his teeth at the legendary Canadian road course, earning his first-ever win in a racecar on the challenging 10-turn circuit that has played a prominent role in Canadian motorsports since first being opened in 1961.

Speaking about his upcoming appearance at the Canadian Motorsports Expo, and paying homage to Mosport, Tracy said, “I’m looking forward to signing autographs at the Canadian Motorsports Expo. It’s always great when you get to go home and get up close and personal with the fans. I’m very excited and I’m sure it’s going to be a great time. Mosport was my home racetrack when I began racing cars. I had my first race and my first win in a racecar there, so I’m thrilled to be a part of kicking off their 50th anniversary celebration.”

CME President Glenn Butt is equally enthused about Tracy’s scheduled appearance. “When you think of successful Canadian racing stars and institutions, Paul Tracy and Mosport International Raceway are near the top of the list. The two have a shared history, and having Paul take part in our celebration of Mosport’s 50th makes it all the more special.”

Responding to the news that ‘PT’ will be participating in the Mosport Anniversary festivities at the CME, Myles Brandt (President & GM, Mosport International Raceway) said, “Mosport has been the home track to many of Canada’s top race drivers over the past five decades, and Paul Tracy ranks as one of the greatest Canadian racers of all time. Everyone at Mosport knew he was something special when he won the Formula Ford title in 1985 and then scored a Can-Am victory here in 1986 to become the youngest Series race winner at age 17.” Brandt continued, “A proud Canadian, Paul has gone on to win many races and titles at circuits across North America and we’re proud that his career began at Mosport; Canada’s Home of Motorsports.
